This project is a single storey rear extension for a Victorian terraced house in East London. Lowering the rear extension by two steps and having a pitched roof was the solution to the external height restriction. This provided a spacious room which accommodates the kitchen, dining and a living space. A small courtyard between the existing living space and the new extension brings natural daylight to the living areas in front as well as the corridor connecting the old and the new parts of the house.
A bench is incorporated in the main oak window of the rear extension which extends to the patio when the windows are folded open, emphasizing the connection to the garden.
